The path to Jennifer's 2021 BOE candidacy:
2020 was a very difficult year for so many. For the Loughran family, it was devastating. Their son’s hospital bed was three feet from where Jennifer was assisting her first grader virtually. "My daughter’s first grade teacher is a champion. She worked so hard for each of her students, under the most difficult circumstances, and still found time to help our daughter individually. When I couldn’t leave the house to pick up a laptop, our principal delivered it personally. Our guidance counselor was also wonderful as was the office staff and extracurricular teachers." However, last year, the BOE’s lack of clear communication or transparency led to anxiety about the Loughran Family's children’s future. Uncertainty needs to be replaced with clarity, dismissiveness of concerns replaced with empathy, and most importantly, focus should be kept on the children.
Jennifer is asking for your vote because she has questions:
With $176 Million budget, why have our building structures declined? Have they not been allocated the funds they need for proper upkeep?
Why do so many families feel they can not be heard and their views are not acknowledged?
Why have parents been asking for full day kindergarten for 30 years and still not have it?
What is going on with our bussing? Why are routes so long that kids are standing out in the dark at 6:00 in the morning?
Why are board meetings only in person when the technology needed to give residents more access has already been used and is in place?
And she wants more than just answers, she wants action.
About Jennifer:
Having moved to Bridgewater in 1981. Jennifer went to Van Holten, Eisenhower, and was in the first freshman class of the combined Bridgewater Raritan High School. After finding success professionally in New York City, Jennifer moved back to take care of her mother and eventually raise her children in Bridgewater. While doing so, she started a successful Etsy business called Artisanal Threadworks, providing custom digitized embroidery art to other small businesses. This experience led her to create two local Charity Organizations, one launched at the onset of the pandemic to help raise and organize an army of contributors who donated, sewed, and distributed masks to police, fire, medical and other first responders and those who were high risk. Most recently, Jennifer launched BR Skateboarding and a charity organization called BR Skates. "The names are inspired by the “We Are BR” chant from my high school days at BRHS." Jennifer currently runs programs through Bridgewater Recreation, the proceeds of which goes to charity to benefit the community, while offering lessons to families in need, scout’s programs, and local children.
The Power of Community
As we face another year of COVID and keeping schools safe and open, we have to unite the community through open communication and action. Jennifer Loughran is running for Board of Education in Bridgewater Raritan because she knows that moving forward takes compassion and commitment. As an engaged member of the community, she is an active leader in local charities and a local entrepreneur who took her passion for skateboarding and created programs and curriculum for Bridgewater that teaches kids more than just skateboarding.
Jennifer has the experience of working with people of all walks, finding common ground, and engaging the community to represent Bridgewater as a member of the Board of Education.
